Dear Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary School Community,
Thank you for your continued partnership in the Maxwell Elementary School principal selection
process. We are excited to share that Ms. Lindsay Handy will continue to serve the school community
as the new principal of Maxwell Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond!
Ms. Handy has proudly led as the Assistant Principal, bringing a decade of experience within Denver
Public Schools to the Maxwell community. A dedicated advocate for Title I education, she is a
LETRS-trained leader grounded in the Science of Reading. She is passionate about driving schoolwide
literacy initiatives and refining data-driven instruction through her signature “boots on the ground”
leadership style.
Throughout her years in administration, she has remained committed to Maxwell’s identity as a highly
inclusive, bilingual neighborhood school. Her vision is to ensure every student—regardless of their
starting point—receives rigorous instruction and the specific support needed to thrive. By partnering
closely with teachers and families, she will continue to ensure Maxwell remains a place where every
child belongs and leaves fully prepared for the future.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who engaged in the selection process and
contributed input and feedback. Additionally, we would like to extend our gratitude to the Maxwell
Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for their time, thoughtfulness, and unwavering commitment to
the ongoing success of Maxwell. Along with the rich input this community shared in the initial survey,
the CSC used the candidate profile to create interview questions for our candidates that participated
in the initial round of interviews. This committee served the school community well, and their ongoing
commitment to the long-term success of Maxwell is deeply appreciated.
Ms. Handy will begin listening and learning with the Maxwell community later this spring and will
assume full principalship over the summer. To ensure a seamless leadership transition, Mrs. Beth
Yates remains fully committed to working closely with Ms. Handy while supporting the school
throughout this period. Please look forward to more communication from her in the coming weeks.
